Music

Subject Overview

Welcome to the Redhill Music Department page! We are a very busy department with something going on all the time – from our large ensemble rehearsals like Concert Band and Choir, to our smaller chamber groups and student led ensembles. We have something for everyone – for those who have never touched an instrument before, to those pupils who have been learning for years and have achieved a high standard on their instrument, and everything in between.

The department has its own purpose built music block, which has three specialist rooms and three rehearsal rooms. The department also has 10 Apple Mac computers for composing and arranging.

Music can open all sorts of doors and create opportunities for developing skills that can benefit a wide range of subjects.

The music department has its own purpose built music block, which has three specialist rooms and three rehearsal rooms. We have a suite of Apple Mac computers for composing and arranging as well as access to iPads and DJ equipment. Other facilities include a full samba kit, class sets of djembes and ukuleles, a keyboard lab and a set of string instruments.

Extended Learning

Although music is a largely practical subject, there are a variety of tasks that we set as extended learning. In every project there is a keywords test, a listening test, a score reading test and a final practical assessment. Pupils will be given sets of words to revise for each of the four projects, video tutorials to help prepare them for listening tests and practical assessments.

All of these are set via Google Classroom and pupils have access to the words, video links and any other material they need to complete the work.

Every pupil has a Google Classroom account set up for them. To log in, use your normal computer log in i.e. bloggsj@redhillclassroom.co.uk. Your password and class code are available from your teacher.
