Homework
At Redhill School, we believe that homework is an integral part of the educational experience, serving as a vital tool for reinforcing learning and fostering independent study skills among our pupils.
By engaging with homework, pupils have the opportunity to consolidate their understanding of classroom concepts, develop essential time management skills, and prepare for future learning challenges.
Our commitment to high expectations and a culture of respect ensures that homework is not just an obligation but a meaningful extension of the classroom experience, promoting both academic success and personal growth for all our pupils.
Which subject set Homework?
•Key Stage 3: At Redhill School, we have strategically decided to focus our homework timetable on core subjects, MFL, History & Geography at Key Stage 3 to align with our educational priorities and ensure optimal learning outcomes for our pupils. By dedicating time to core subjects, we reinforce the foundational knowledge and skills that are essential for academic success.
•Additionally, History & Geography are critical subjects that all pupils will study at Key Stage 4, making it imperative that we provide a strong grounding in these areas during Key Stage 3. This focused approach not only allows pupils to engage deeply with the material but also prepares them effectively for their future studies & assessments, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle the challenges ahead.
•At Key Stage 4: Maths & Science subject will set homework every week. English & Option subject will be set every 2 weeks.

Our commitment to the Arts and Technology
•We are deeply committed to fostering creativity and innovation through the arts and technology. To support this commitment, we would like to introduced half-termly Creative and Technology Challenge activities for our Key Stage 3 pupils.
•These engaging challenges encourage pupils to explore their artistic talents and technological skills, allowing them to work on projects at home that run alongside our homework system. By providing opportunities for hands-on learning and creative expression, we aim to inspire our pupils to think critically, solve problems, and develop a passion for the arts and technology.
•This initiative not only enriches their educational experience but also prepares them for future opportunities in an increasingly creative and digital world.
•These activities will not have their completion recorded in class charts. No sanction for not completing the work. The work should however be considered in the overall assessment grade awarded during monitoring and assessment. Increasing the opportunities for stretch and challenge. How will Homework be set?
We use the Class Charts app to streamline our homework process. Through this app, you will have the ability to view your child's homework assignments conveniently on your smartphone or tablet. Additionally, each student will receive a termly homework workbook that contains prepopulated tasks and supporting materials, designed to reduce barriers and provide a single point of access for completing homework. This workbook not only aids students in managing their assignments but also offers you valuable insights into your child's learning journey, fostering a collaborative approach to their education.
What will we set for Homework?
The homework booklet at Redhill School has been thoughtfully designed by our subject teams to support students in consolidating their learning effectively. Each task within the workbook aims to embed knowledge into long-term memory, ensuring that students have ample opportunities to practice assessment-style questions. Additionally, the workbook encourages the application of higher-order concepts, allowing pupils to deepen their understanding and make meaningful connections across subjects. This structured approach not only reinforces key content but also prepares students for future academic challenges and assessments.
How will student receive feedback
Homework will be integral to our post-homework learning checks, where pupils can utilise their completed assignments during open-book assessments.
This approach encourages pupils to engage in scaffolded struggle time, empowering them to tackle more challenging tasks while building their confidence and skills.
By incorporating their homework into these checks, we create opportunities for targeted feedback and green pen activities, allowing teachers to implement adaptive teaching strategies that address specific gaps and misconceptions.
This method not only accelerates pupil progress but also fosters a deeper understanding of the material, ensuring that each pupil is equipped to succeed in their learning journey.
Is Homework optional at Redhill?
We believe that homework is an essential component of the learning process and is not optional.
•It reinforces the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom, promotes independent learning, and helps pupils develop important study habits.
•To ensure accountability and support our pupils in meeting these expectations, any pupil who fails to submit their homework on time will be issued a Homework Support Detention.
•This detention will take place as close to the submission deadline as possible, providing pupils with the opportunity to reflect on their responsibilities and receive guidance on completing their Homework. Support detentions are will run for 30 minutes in line with the timetable below.
