Dudley Children's Book Awards

P, from our Year 8 Book Club, writes:

On Tuesday 17th March, members of the Year 7 and Year 8 Book Clubs travelled to Summerhill School for the Dudley Children’s Book Awards.

The event celebrates books released in 2025 by various UK-based authors. In the shortlist, there were three categories with four books in each; the Short and Sweet category, the Children’s category, and the Teen category.

We had a very exciting time, hearing the authors' presentations about their books and had chances to ask the authors questions, as well as having an opportunity to meet Patrice Lawrence, Doug Naylor and Jenny Pearson afterwards.

Additionally, we learned lots on how to start writing books and stories of our own. The authors’ presentations were very interesting and helped us to learn more about the process of writing, publishing and releasing books.

“The speeches were moving and motivational.”

-R, Year 8

“Really helped me to think about pursuing a career in writing.”

-B, Year 8

“Everyone seemed very happy to be there!”

-E, Year 7

The overall winners were:

Short & Sweet: The Deadsoul Project by Dan Smith

Children's: Sinbin Island by Doug Naylor

Teen: Cloud Nine by Sue H Cunningham
