Year 6 – Year 7 Transition 2025 Summer Reading Challenge

This Summer celebrate your love of reading, or get a bit of help in keeping up your reading habit, by entering our Summer Reading Challenge for pupils entering Year 7 in September.

We have 5 different challenges for you – pick just 4 of them and complete a challenge card. Cards will be available on Induction Days as well as the Redhill Ready day, and a printable version is available below. When you come to Redhill in September return your completed card to the Library (upstairs in A Block) by Friday 5th September.

All completed challenges earn 10 credits and will be entered into a prize draw for a trip to see an author in September.

THE CHALLENGES...

#1 Read a piece of fiction

Long or short, any genre, it could be a physical book, online or ebook. What did you read? What format was it in (paper/ebook)? Tell us why you did or didn’t like it.

#2 Read a graphic novel

Graphic novels, comics and manga come in all genres, including non-fiction. Find something that you enjoy, let the pictures support your reading experience and then tell us all about it!

#3 Watch an adaptation of a book or play

This could be a film, TV, theatre (even anime) but must be based on a written book or play. What did you watch and if you have read the original – which did you prefer?

#4 Listen to an audiobook

Great for journeys or to listen to while you tidy up your room – audiobooks can really bring stories to life. Tell us what you listened to – would you recommend it?

#5 Read a piece of non-fiction

Non-fiction is something that is true and not made up, you could read a book or an article about anything as long as it’s real. Tell us what you read (title, author, webpage etc) and what you thought of it.

Give it the challenges a try and enjoy a summer of reading!

Audiobooks

It can seem difficult to find audiobooks for free – by far the best way is to listen through Dudley Libraries’ Libby app. You can also borrow physical audiobooks in library branches – either as CDs or as “plug-in-and-play” where all you need is a pair of earphones.

You can listen to the classic The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum here for free.

Or you can use a paying service such as Audible or Spotify, which sometimes have free offers.
